Working with Parents in Foster Care Cases 1.5 Hours

Child Welfare Supervised Visitation allows families to connect safely following separation due to allegations of abuse and neglect. Visitation in child welfare has many goals including, meeting the developmental needs of the child, maintaining connections, increasing parenting skills and teaming towards permanency. Working with parents in this arena has its own strengths and challenges. This webinar will discuss the goals of visitation in child welfare, and how to work with parents around these goals. Best Practice in child welfare visitation will be presented, as well as the benefits of working with families with a trauma informed lens.

Kelly Sachter, LCSW, is a Director of Programs at Family Connections, Inc, which provides services for families in NJ. Family Connections, Inc.’s mission is to engender hope, enhance safety, heal trauma and strengthen families. Kelly Sachter is dedicated to partnering with stakeholders to ensure that families can heal from the trauma that has occurred in their lives. Kelly Sachter has participated in the development of the Blueprint for Integration of Evidence Based/Evidence Informed Practices into NJ’s Child Welfare System, and has partnered with the Department of Children and Families in multiple programs including various therapeutic models utilizing implementation science. Kelly Sachter has provided presentations and trainings for various agencies and organizations with the topics of child welfare, visitation, supportive housing, and trauma at national organizations including the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Child Welfare League of America and Supervised Visitation Network. Kelly Sachter is dedicated to incorporating the knowledge of research and experience to improve contact for families needing supervised visitation due to separation.
